A TERRORISING pig has ravaged a quiet neighbourhood and left no lawn unturned in a mission that has baffled a victimised homeowner.

Frank Marino of Kanimbla remembered when he lived a normal life before Friday July 1 when his garden received an unwelcome and bold trim.

“There’s a wild pig in my backyard, it started to rip up the lawn and has ripped up an extra 10 square metres every night since,” he said.

“I’ve caught it on our security camera footage … it’s digging up the flowers.”

The 50 to 70kg pig hunts Mr Marino’s lawn every night between 2am to 3am and efforts to scare it off hasn’t made the hog budge.

“We tried putting the lights on and music on but it didn’t work,” he said.

Cairns Regional Council has stepped in to catch the bandit which a spokesperson said was normally quite effective in retrieving feral pigs.

“It is not unusual for feral pigs to go in search of food and water, which unfortunately can bring them into suburban areas,” a council spokesperson said.

“If it is a feral pig, it will be humanly euthanised.

“Feral pigs are a major pest animal in the Far North and damage the natural environment and pose a major threat to the conservation values of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area.”

The trap, which constitutes a nifty cage set up with the allure of bananas and fruits, went up on Tuesday with no avail as the pig wittily moved on to the neighbours more accessible gardens.

Mr Marino said the mess will take weeks to fix, putting him hundreds of dollars out of pocket.

“It’s bloody making a mess,” Mr Marino said.

“It’ll be back.”
