‘Multiple’ people seriously injured, one fighting for life after horror crash on major highway west of Brisbane

Multiple people have been flown to hospital – one fighting for their life – following a horrific highway crash near Toowoomba.
Paramedics and police rushed to the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash the New England Highway in Merritts Creek at 11:21am on Friday.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said “multiple critical patients” were being assessed with “significant injuries”.

Two helicopters were deployed to the scene, one taking a woman in her 20s with pelvic, abdominal and chest injuries to Princess Alexandra Hospital
Another woman in her 30s with chest and abdominal injuries was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
A third patient, a man in his 20s, was taken to Toowoomba Hospital by road ambulance with abdominal and chest injuries.
Both directions of the highway are closed and blocked near Mount Luke Road and Brennan Road as police investigate.
“Motorists are advised closures will remain in place for some time, and to avoid the area if possible,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
