The 51st running of Darwin’s iconic City2Surf is slated to be the biggest in history

The fun run, which attracted just over 2k runners last year, is seeking to have an influx of interstate runners and locals to take to the pavement Sunday, June 2, 2024.

A massive milestone for the much-loved event, which attracts a wide variety of ages and runners, there is no shortage of options for those involved.

With a 12km run, 4km run/walk and the kids’ mile (1.6km) there are plenty of categories for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Additionally, this year will see the first time a para category will be implemented with at least two participants already signing up for the event.

The 12km run will see participants start at the Esplanade in the CBD and run/walk to the finish line at Nightcliff Foreshore.

The other two categories will start and end at the Nightcliff Pool.

The run is open to all, including participants who use hand cycles, frame runners and racing chairs.

“The NT City2Surf is one of the largest mass participation sporting events in the Territory, with categories to suit everyone’s abilities,” Major Events chief executive officer Suzana Bishop said.

“It’s a great event for people with a fitness goal to work towards, as well as get the whole family involved in.

”The race attracts runners from across the country who get to run by the ocean and enjoy our beautiful dry season weather, as well as get out and explore our unique tourism experiences and incredible landscapes.”

For the first time in the event’s history, the long awaited answer will finally be revealed as to official length of the 12km course.

“The course will be AIMS-measured and certified, which will help us to attract interstate runners and boost our profile on the national running calendar,” Athletics NT executive officer Leanne Chin said.

“We’re very excited about building on the record number of entrants from last year’s NT City2Surf.

“With 150 entrants already … we are pushing for those in the NT and interstate to take part in the event as Darwin is special and our weather is fantastic at that time of year and we’re encouraging people to reserve us in the calendar of runs around Australia.

Alongside a new look and new partnerships the City2Surf will continue their long and proud partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Now in their eighth year of partnership, both parties are the new look and are encouraging everyone to have a go.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the City2Surf,” RFDS Darwin’s Noni Romano said.

“It is a wonderful event and we encourage people to be happy healthy Australians no matter where you work, live or play.”
