Two people killed in horror crash in state's north

Singer Shannon Noll has tried to save a young woman’s life, dragging her from a burning car after he came across a fiery crash on his way home in northern NSW.

The 48-year-old was travelling back to his family property on Saturday night when he encountered a sedan which had hit a tree and caught on fire on a notorious section of road in Ellangowan, 16km south of Casino.

The car was being driven by 18-year-old Kobi Roberts-Walker, who was travelling with his 18-year-old girlfriend Jaselle Melrose, less than 10km from their home at Ellangowan.

The former Australian Idol singer pulled Miss Melrose from the car and performed CPR, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Emergency services arrived at the scene at about 8.50pm, however Miss Melrose was unable to be saved. Mr Roberts-Walker also died at the scene.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph about the incident, Noll said: “Last night was such a tragedy.”

“I just reacted and did what I could to assist the young woman at the scene,” he said.

“Our prayers and condolences go out to their families at this terribly sad time.”

A volunteer rescue worker who was at the scene said the singer “heroically” leapt into action, trying to pull the young woman from the flames.

“He’s pretty much got her away from the car as much as he could and heroically done what he could before the police and that arrived,” they told the newspaper.

It’s understood Mr Roberts-Walker recently moved to Ellangowan to live with Ms Melrose and her family, the Telegraph reports.

Noll and his family moved to a farm in Casino last year after living in Sydney.

In a statement, NSW Police said “officers attached to Richmond Police District have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash”.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
