EIGHT Gold Coast cafes have been recognised as part of the ultimate list of Queensland’s 50 Best Brunches.
The Sunday Mail tomorrow has hailed Bam Bam Bakehouse, BSKT cafe at Mermaid Beach, Cardamom Pod at Southport, Commune at Burleigh Heads, Elk Espresso and No Name Lane at Broadbeach, Forreal Kitchen at Nobby Beach, and Hot Shott at Main Beach for their inventive cooking, excellent service and great atmosphere.
Two Gold Coast cafes also won best family friendly location and best healthy cafe.
U on Sunday Editor Natalie Gregg said the state has a sophisticated cafe scene but the
Gold Coast’s cafes and eateries were among the best.
“There’s nothing that typifies relaxing on weekends better than going out for brunch and the Gold Coast has some real standouts,” Ms Gregg said.
“Our top food reviewers ate their way through a long list of cafes to settle on the final 50.” Ms Gregg said the list reveals some exciting new food trends emerging this year including the huge popularity of waffles, including inventive savoury options such as the buttermilk fried chicken dish at Elk Espresso.

“You’d be hard pressed to find a cafe that doesn’t serve smashed avocado on toast, but now there’s some innovative new versions adding popular Middle Eastern ingredients such as dukkah, or with rocket, seeds, and poached eggs,” she said.
Commune’s menu features the trend towards Asian inspired dishes, while Forreal and Cardamom Pod have responded to the push for clean, green eating, with a range of health
smoothies, green bowls packed with green vegies.
