Triple M Adelaide says it has the top brekky show in Adelaide, but ratings say differently

In the lead up to next week’s radio ratings survey, Triple M Adelaide’s been caught fibbing to its loyal listeners.

If radio is all about painting a picture with words, then Triple M Adelaide must be into surrealist art.

In a promo for the Roo, Ditts & Loz breakfast show – heard throughout the day – a male voice tells listeners: “You’ve made Roo, Ditts & Loz Adelaide’s No. 1 breakfast show – cheers for that!”

To quote Michael Caton’s character in the Castle, Daryl Kerrigan, someone needs to “tell him he’s dreamin’ ”, because Triple M brekky is in second position last time we checked.

Bragging rights for top spot – announced in last month’s first survey of the year – belong to David Penberthy and Will Goodings.

They co-host breakfast on FIVEaa, which is an AM talkback station.

So, in other words, Mark Ricciuto, Chris Dittmar and Laura O’Callaghan host what is the highest-rating FM brekky show, not the overall winner in the ratings as their on-air promo incorrectly claims.

But Roo, Ditts & Loz – who have great “banter”, as they say in the biz – can still be proud. Their number-two spot put them ahead of the ABC’s Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz, which is impressive because first and second places historically always alternate between AM stations, Aunty and FIVEaa.

In the first survey for 2023, FIVEaa brekky won with 14.2 share points, despite dropping 2.3 since the final survey for 2022.

Triple M gained 1.7 share points to finish with 12.9, ahead of ABC Adelaide with 12.5, down 1.1 share points.

The next survey results will be out on April 20, so maybe Triple M is manifesting an overall win with its misleading promo.

Triple M was contacted for comment, as was FIVEaa.

While Penberthy and Goodings declined to comment, we are yet to hear back from Triple M despite several attempts to get a response, and last we heard the promo was still being played
