IF the idea of tucking into a cheesecake without cheese doesn’t sound appealing, that’s because you haven’t tried cheezecake.
That’s the view of Sharlene Fletcher who is selling the cubic raw treats at Blendlove in Southport.
The cheesecakes, which come in 19 different flavours and cost $8, are vegan and free from gluten, wheat, refined sugar, dairy and soy.
“It’s spelt with a Z for cashew cheese which is a vegan term for cheese,” said Ms Fletcher, who originally sold the cakes at the Marina Mirage markets.
“We use organic rice malt syrup which enters your bloodstream much slower and doesn’t spike your blood sugar levels, so you don’t come crashing down afterwards like with most treats.”
And if you’re thinking of replicating the raw goodies in your kitchen, forget it.
The recipe is a tightly guarded secret by Sharlene and her business partner Riki-Lee Gilbert.
“Only the two of us actually know how make the cheesecakes in the shop so it’s very top secret,” Sharlene said.
“We’ve being doing it for so long that we perfected the recipe over the years, it’s become specialised.”
