The most watched movies on Qantas in 2023

Sorry Tay-Tay, we have bad news.

What Qantas' non-stop London to Sydney flight is really like

Geographically speaking, Australia is a long way from anywhere. Which means hour after hour in the air with a seemingly endless supply of entertainment options. Qantas has crunched the numbers on the viewing habits of its customers in 2023 and there are some clear winners.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were more than Kenough in Barbie, which was the most watched movie of 2023. It’s a remarkable feat since it was only added to the airline’s movie roster in November. Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny took out the next two places.

It was also “cheese and crackers” for Bluey - Australia’s greatest cultural import since Kylie - with the animated series topping the charts as the most popular kids entertainment program. Australian shows made their mark with favoured TV programs. Five Bedrooms topped the comedy category, The Australian Wars dominated the documentary genre and the reality show Couples Therapy Australia was a sky-high hit.

But none of those could hold a candle - metaphorically of course as naked flames don’t belong in the cabin - to Jennifer Coolidge and her turn White Lotus Season 2. Have a guess at how many hours were viewed just on Qantas in 2023? Try 300,000. Succession and House Of The Dragon took out spots two and three.

As ever, Bluey was a hit with travelling kids of all ages.

If stats are your thing, it’s interesting to note that 80 million hours of inflight entertainment was logged as opposed to 60 million last year but that is accounted for by the fact that more people were travelling. Interestingly, there was only a 10 per cent jump in flyers using the free onboard wi-fi.

When it came to audio entertainment there were a few surprises too. The most listened to musical artists wasn’t Taylor, Drake, Bad Bunny or the Biebs. That possie went to the late great Whitney Houston on the back of the bio-pic I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

In terms of audio albums, it seems Qantas’ passengers opted to counter the stress of flying with a spot of meditation - namely, Nature Spirit by Jens Buchert. Finally, the audiobook section was dominated Australian author Liane Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall.
