SOMETIMES there’s no settling those carnivorous cravings. Amber Macpherson has found five of the best barbecue and grill restaurants setting the foodie scene alight.
Moo Moo Restaurant
2685 Gold Coast Hwy, Broadbeach
SWEET STORY BEHIND NEW COAST CAFE REVEALED
Broadbeach’s Moo Moo Restaurant is looking forward to a new menu in the coming weeks with an addition that has owner Steve Adams very excited. “For the first time we’ll have a pure bred Japanese wagyu,” he says. “We’ve found the supplier with the marble score 11.” Moo Moo has been operating for 15 years on the Gold Coast, with diners valuing its attention to detail in cooking up a sophisticated steak. “Our rump cap is always one of our biggest sellers, our signature is the one that made us a success — the 1kg rump cap roast,” Steve says. “The flat iron steak continues to receive amazing feedback, it’s very highly marbled. It really is a luxury piece of meat. And we always get amazing feedback on our selection of side dishes. I always have a saying that sides make the meal.”

Harry’s Steak Bistro
1744 Gold Coast Hwy, Burleigh Heads
There’s family history behind Harry’s Steak Bistro, the Burleigh Heads barbecue restaurant with an attached sports bar famous for its generous offering on fried potatoes. “Growing up in a Greek family we always have a paranoia of people leaving the dinner table hungry,” co-owner Adam Haralampou says. “For that reason we thought we’d offer patrons endless fries if they wish.” Starting at $27 for a chargrilled cut, Harry’s is the place to go for value for money. “Our signature slow charcoal roasted scotch fillet is our winning dish,” Adam says. “We use our Harry’s secret spice, roast it over charcoal until rare, let it rest then portion and finish off on our chargrill to the customers liking. Our steak sandwich that we offer in our boutique sports bar area is something to write home about. Good quality meat, house baked bread, truffle aioli and house made chutney and organic rocket are all the elements that make it amazing.”
NAKED CHEF TO OPEN RESTAURANT ON THE GOLD COAST
Meat and Co
4/90 Surf Pde, Broadbeach
There’s a new grill restaurant in town and it’s already cooking with gas — or coals, rather. Meat and Co in Broadbeach takes influence from South African barbecuing, known as braii. “We do a South African-influence open flame grill,” owner Abii Sharma says. “To do braii you have to make a special sauce which is our secret ingredient. We specialise in premium cuts, we’re selling all branded cuts here. Our ribs are our highlight, and we’ve also got beef, lamb and chicken skewers.” Similar to a seafood market, Meat and Co has its cuts on display in a refrigerated cabinet so diners can choose the chunk they’d like grilled and served. “All our meat is on display, customers can have a look at what they’ll be eating,” Abii says.
Glenelg Public House
9/2460 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach
GOLD COAST BREWER’S NEW BEEF ‘PACKS A PUNCH’
There’s no need to make a song and dance about cooking a good steak at Glenelg Public House in Mermaid Beach — the restaurant lets the meat do the talking. Using the “world’s best beef” (hint: they mean Australian) in its steak-strong menu, the restaurant has a variety of options for casual meat eaters to serious beef buffs. Top picks include the hanger 200g steak sourced from Glen Innes, or the 1kg T-bone with a choice of two sides for and sauces for sharing between friends and family.
BBQ Bazaar
18 Junction Rd, Burleigh Heads
