A British expat has taken to TikTok to express her shock that Australians didn’t know what Mr Whippy was. But she was quickly shut down.

British expat gets Aussies ‘so wrong’ in TikTok video

A British expat who shared two “culture shock” moments when she moved to Australia has been quickly disproved by Aussies.

Jordana Grace, who now lives in Brisbane, took to TikTok on Monday, saying she was shocked that Aussies didn’t know Mr Whippy.

The video featured a sketch of her and a mate grabbing dessert after finishing a meal and, a picture of a soft serve ice cream with syrup and a Flake in it appeared on screen.

Jordana explained to her friend that it was “a Mr Whippy”.

“Aussie: Ahaha! That’s such a weird name for an ice cream,” the caption read.

The other moment that left her scratching her head was when someone didn’t understand what “half five” meant when organising a time to meet.

But, people in the comments were quick to point out just how wrong the expat was on both points.

“Um what Aussie did you talk to that doesn’t know Mr Whippy,” one social media user commented on the clip.

Another added: “We have Mr Whippy here in Melbourne driving around.”

One person said: “Mr Whippy still exists but it’s the ice cream van. The ice cream is a soft serve.”

A fourth said: “Oh so Mr Whippy over there is like bandaids – brand name that has just replaced the real name?

Meanwhile many of her followers were quick to home in on her comments about Aussies not understanding how she said the time.

“In Australia we use half past etc. We still teach it in school,” one social media user said.

Another added: “I don’t know any Aussies who wouldn’t understand ‘half five’ though we would usually say ‘half past five’.”

After hundreds of comments, the expat conceded she had made a mistake.

“How have I got this so wrong?” she asked her followers.

The young woman recently went viral after explaining her shock at the varieties of milk sold in Australia.

“I honestly never thought milk would be complicated,” she said.
