A British man living in Australia has shared his “confusion”, yet amusement over the many different ways Aussies use one particular swear word.

Ryan Rose Evans, who is originally from London, took to his TikTok to share a video about how versatile the word ‘f***ed’ is Down Under.

He said he couldn’t believe it could be used to describe something good, and also bad,

“You guys can use the word f***ed for so many different things,” Ryan said in the clip.

“It can be, ‘That’s f***ed’ – that’s a bad thing.

“It can be, ‘That’s f***ed’ – that’s a good thing,” he added while switching to a more high-pitched tone.

“It can just go on and on and on.”

He said the distinguishing factor is all in the delivery.

“It seems to be how you say it, is how someone will get exactly what you mean from it, am I right?” he asked viewers.

He then gave an example how he was talking to his mates the other day about a bad situation.

“And they said, ‘That’s f***ed,’ as in ‘That’s f***ed,’ and it could also mean, ‘That’s f***ed,’” Ryan said, this time dragging the word to imply it’s “a good thing”.

“So confusing, but it is so worldwide you can use it for absolutely anything.”

Ryan’s post has since attracted 184,000 views and hundreds of comments from Aussies applauding his quick learning.

“Spot on mate,” one TikTok user wrote.

“It’s all about tone. We are a nuanced and intelligent people,” a second person said.

A third explained that it is “all about intonation and context and we can do it with pretty much any word”.

“Learning the way of an Aussie is a skill only the geniuses can master. You seem to be learning well,” a fourth person added.

Ryan isn’t the only one taken aback by our use of the swear word. Another Brit, also named Ryan, expressed his shock at the amount of times Aussies swear.

“There is something actually wrong with Australians,” Ryan Frank joked in a TikTok. “I was at the shop, and this is how the two Aussies greeted each other: ‘Hey John, you f***ing idiot.’ ‘Hey Matty, you pr***.’

“When I saw this I thought they were going to fight, then I realised it’s actually normal to swear in Australia.”

He said he was shocked by the casual insulting between Aussies and suggested the exchange wouldn’t go down well in other countries.

“You could go anywhere else in the world, but Australia would be the only place where you find people swearing at people as normal.”
