‘Sick’: Aussies froth as cult Aldi item returns
It sells out every year, often within minutes. But if you missed out, the viral Special Buys items is back.
Aldi has confirmed one of its most viral Special Buys items is coming back to stores.
The supermarket’s Luxury Pre-lit Christmas Tree is known to sell out every year within just a few hours, and last year was no different.
A number of Aussies shared their love for the product online, boasting about the quality and value of the tree, which is just a fraction of the price of many similar options.
“If you are looking for something that’s just super easy to put up, (and) something that requires minimal work to look good, I would 100 per cent recommend this tree,” TikTok user @recursiveaf said when it came on sale last year.
“This is sick,” said @letsbereal.couple in a similar review.

This year, you’ll be able to purchase the tree in both 7ft ($149) and 6ft ($89.99) – that is, if you get in quick enough, Aldi said.
“Every year, we’re excited to sprinkle some festive magic down the middle aisle with a dazzling range of pre-lit Christmas trees, decorations, and lights,” the supermarket’s Australian shopping expert Kylie Warnke said.
“Our Luxury Pre-lit Christmas Trees are always a crowd favourite, offering the perfect combination of convenience and style to make decorating easier than ever on the budget.”
It’ll be launching in the middle aisle on October 29, along with a host of other Christmas goodies for those who want to get ahead.
This year, there will also be new LED animated tree adornments ($19.99) to help you level-up your decorating with no effort at all – think flying Santa hanging from the star or a hovering train around the tree.
You can also get your front yard display sorted, with new sparkling LED light trees ($19.99) and bulk fair lights 1000 pack ($29.99), as well as the returning acrylic look light-up reindeer ($49.99) and Christmas inflatable characters ($19.99).
Aldi is also releasing brand new festive storage bags ($19.99) in five sizes, to help stash lights, baubles, tinsel, larger pieces of decor, or even your tree outside of the festive season.
“This year’s Special Buys is packed with everything you need to embrace the holiday spirit indoors and out, including new fresh bulk lighting options and new clever festive storage solutions,” Ms Warnke said.
It seems unique Christmas trees are on everyone’s shopping lists this year, with Bunnings’ Mirabella Pink Malibu Pre-Lit Christmas tree catching shoppers’ eyes.
The unofficially Barbie-themed item is retailing for $139, and is – unsurprisingly – completely pink.
“Barbie Christmas tree,” said TikTok user Eloise in a video to the platform.
“Girls, run, don’t walk, to Bunnings.”
Needless to say, social media users were obsessed.
“OK this is actually cool,” one person commented.
“I need it! I love pink everything,” said another.
