While one happy shopper said: “Got our hands on this amazing Aboriginal artwork by Holly McLennan-Brown today! We think it makes a perfect new addition to our foyer.”

The artwork has also attracted attention on TikTok where it was described as “special”, “stunning” and “gorgeous”.

Holly said the opportunity to share her culture with other people is “really exciting” and loves that the piece starts conversation around First Nations experiences – including a well-known protest by the Yorta Yorta people in 1939 against poor living conditions.

“I was inspired by life events in the past, the Cummeragunja Walk Off and the strength and vulnerability shown through that … people’s initiative to take action,” she said.

“I hope that when people take it home they can interpret it in their own way. I hope that it is open and each person can connect to it with their own life and their own journeys.”

The New Beginnings print was released last week as part of Kmart’s new home living range that features items starting from as little as $1.50.
