COCKTAILS and live entertainment have helped a Broadbeach venue to the title of the Gold Coast’s best brunch.
Gold Coast Bulletin readers voted the Miss Moneypenny’s Sunday session a weekend winner.
The restaurant’s group marketing manager Amy Young said their brunch was a popular choice for birthday or hen’s celebrations.
“We are one of the only brunches in Australia that includes cocktails,” she said.
“Ben Walsh (the owner of Miss Moneypenny’s) is really passionate about the atmosphere.
“When people are here they have fun.”
Miss Moneypenny offers its brunch service every Sunday with a wide range of beer, wines, spritz and cocktails.
“All of the ladies love our signature rose petal martini,” Ms Young said.
SURPRISING FEATURE OF NEW GOLD COAST WINE BAR
A NEW Greek Islands-inspired wine bar has opened in Sanctuary Cove, but there’s a twist.
If patrons at Destino Wine Bar fancy the chairs, table, cushions or candles, they can buy them.
FULL DIGITAL ACCESS: JUST $1 FOR FIRST 28 DAYS
“When you fall in love with the space, you can take a piece of it home with you,” said Craig Chilvers, who owns the venue with wife Lisa.
“Starting up a business in the middle of COVID we wanted to have multiple (income) streams, so we have the wine bar, Campos coffee in the morning and a homewares store,” he said. “Everything that’s outside on the deck you can come and buy inside.”
An endless summer setting of breeze blocks and white bougainvillea, Destino was inspired by its owners’ travels through the Mediterranean.
“It’s meant to be airy and light — imagine a beach club in Mykonos or Santorini,” Mr Chilvers said.
“Dark wine bars are great in Melbourne, but they don’t really fit the Gold Coast.

“As Sanctuary Cove residents, we knew the area needed something with a bit more of a vibe, rather than just a restaurant.”
While it’s designed as a destination for pre or post-dinner drinks on the deck, guests can also design their own cheeseboard from a menu of nibbles.
“We don’t have a kitchen but we’re doing tapas-style things like dips, cheeseboards and charcuterie,” Mr Chilvers said. “We’ve got anchovies imported from Spain on toasted baguettes, Spanish peppers, olives and sardines.
“Our wines aren’t the stock standard New Zealand sav blanc – we’ll have wines from France, Italy, Spain and Greece to capture that Mediterranean feel.
“We’re also putting together a spectacular cocktails list with all the smoke and theatrics.”
