A MUCH-LOVED Tamborine Mountain holiday park has ventured into glamping, with a newly launched lotus tent to be followed by up to 25 of the high-end set-ups.

Cedar Creek Lodges, which shares a 112ha rainforest property with Thunderbird Park, is courting couples who crave the canvas experience without compromising comfort.

General manager Tamara Gray said the idea was sparked by the property’s popularity with the wedding market.

“We have 200 weddings at our venue this year alone and such a demand for accommodation,” she said.

“Glamping is very on-trend and there’s nothing at this level in the area.

“We have two more tents under construction at the moment, with more to follow over the next year.

“They have open-air showers, views to die for, big king beds and the soft furnishings are all very luxurious.”

The tents are tucked into the trees on permanent timber decks alongside an ensuite with hot water, barbecue and outdoor setting.

“They overlook Cedar Creek. With just canvas between you and the rainforest, you feel like you’re really submerged in the setting,” Ms Gray said.

“There’s a canvas roof over the ensuite but not the shower, so you can shower under the stars.

“The tents are fully connected to power with a plasma TV and DVD player.

“Basically anything you’d expect in a standard hotel room is included, it’s just that it’s inside canvas.”

Spend crisp mountain nights cuddled around the fire pit – the nearby Terrace Kiosk sells the all-important marshmallows.

While the tents have a kitchenette including a bar fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, guests who feel like upgrading from campfire cuisine can book into the onsite Rainforest Restaurant.

Adventure activities abound at Thunderbird Park, home to the TreeTop Challenge with The Canyon Flyer guided zipline tour and two high ropes courses.

“Guests can dig for thunder eggs (ancient rocks similar to a filled geode) and feed the birds and there’s pony rides for the kids,” Ms Gray said.

Cedar Creek Lodges is within a short drive of many of Mount Tamborine’s natural attractions, including Curtis Falls and its glow-worm grotto.

“There’s also lots of bushwalking directly from our property,” Ms Gray said.

“The (track) to Cedar Creek Falls is particularly popular.”
