A Gold Coast coffee shop owner says he has received more than a thousand positive messages after giving away hundreds of free coffees to women.

Brodie Green, who owns Seadog on James Street in Burleigh, gave away more than 560 cups of coffee to women over the weekend and promised to donate profits from men to charity.

Mr Green made the gesture after copping negative feedback from a man for a picture he shared online in response to restrictive new abortion laws in Alabama.

“People are coming to (the coffee shop) and every single person is talking about it,” Mr Green said.

“I’ve had people literally crying on my shoulder, thanking me for bringing this to everyone’s attention, and getting people to talk about it.

“The thing that I’m getting is that it a topic that isn’t spoken about enough.”

The story even grabbed the attention of famed Australian feminist writer and broadcaster Clementine Ford, who shared the story on her Facebook page last night.

“Bloody legend,” she commented. “More men need to speak out against abortion bans and consider their role in opposing them.”
