Random act of kindness at Woolworths thanks to sticker

The Woolworths shopper has revealed how she got her hands on a rump steak — that should have cost $11.35 — for free.

A little known sticker at a major supermarket has allowed a customer to score some rump steak for free.

The Woolworths shopper took to social media to share a picture of steak she had purchased which should have cost $11.35.

But a staff member placed a sticker that read “team member purchase” over the barcode, allowing her to get the beef rump steak for free.

“Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but when we were at Woolies today, a staff member chased us down and stuck this sticker over the barcode of some steak we had in our trolley,” the woman revealed to a Facebook page about mums on a budget.

“He then told us it would be free at check out, and it was! I wonder if this is a new campaign they have going, but it was honestly so appreciated.”

Many social media users said they it looked like a random act of kindness from the supermarket, revealing they had been on the receiving end of something similar.

“Woolies randomly gave boxes of food away for mother day with these stickers on. We received a big pork roast, veggies, rolls and apple sauce,” one social media user said.

“It’s probably a random act of kindness! My husband is a manager he will randomly pay for a customer’s shopping trolley or groceries or hand out gift vouchers,” one said, explaining he was given a yearly budget to do just that.

But others speculated whether or not the staff member had permission to do that, saying they may get in trouble.

“Ah no it’s the sticker they put on staff purchases when they take them into or back into store. The person has been dishonest in giving it to you just so u (sic) know,” one social media user said.

However, a Woolworths spokesperson confirmed to news.com.au that it was indeed an act of kindness.

“We try to bring a little good to our customers every day, and this is an example of an act of kindness,” the spokesperson said.

“They often pop up on a discretionary basis and will vary across our stores all over the country. We hope the customer enjoyed the gesture, and would be happy to thank the store team on their behalf should we receive the specific store’s name.”
