IF your idea of a balanced diet is a taco in both hands, prepare your palate for this new Robina restaurant.

Popular Tex-Mex dining group El Camino Cantina plans to open its first Gold Coast restaurant at Robina Town Centre in three months, complete with the eatery’s signature frozen margaritas, free corn chips and salsa and eclectic, colourful fit-out.

CEO Thomas Pash said El Camino, owned by Rockpool Dining Group, had taken over the space formerly occupied by vegan eatery Lord of the Wings and will serve up an exciting food and drinks menu.

POPULAR COAST CAFE DOUBLES IN SIZE

“When the Lord of the Wings site became available, we snapped it up. It’s located on The Promenade, overlooking the water,” Mr Pash said.

“El Camino Cantina really is a one of a kind. We are unashamedly Tex-Mex, as opposed to Mexican, from the food and the drinks to the atmosphere and decor.

“We are famous for our fabulous, frozen margaritas. Guests love the fact that they can enjoy complimentary, refillable baskets of chips and salsas, which are served from restored Ford and Chevy trunks, and our sizzling fajitas, tacos and burritos and quesadillas are always a big hit.”

Rockpool operates nine El Camino Cantina restaurants across Australia, including one at Byron Bay and one in trendy King St at Bowen Hills, Brisbane.

The Robina restaurant will seat 280 people in its festively-lit dining area, including 175 al fresco seats.

The menu will feature soft-shelled tacos, fajitas, burritos, quesadillas, buffalo wings, nachos and more, while the margaritas are served shaken or frozen in classic, strawberry, mango and tropical Red Bull flavours.

Mr Pash said the new restaurant would reflect the reputation of its sister stores.

“El Camino Cantina has been very well received at our other Queensland locations,” he said.

“We believe the restaurant is a great fit for the Gold Coast and hope it will be embraced by local residents and visitors.”

El Camino Cantina Robina is expected to open in late April to early May.
