AN iconic steak restaurant has announced plans to relocate to Surfers Paradise, taking over the space occupied by risque “breastaurant’’ Hooters.
Black Angus Bar and Grill closed its Sanctuary Cove venue on Australia Day, with the owner hoping to open in the new space off the Gold Coast Hwy, next to the iconic Pink Poodle Motel sign, next month.
“On the sixth of February I will get the keys. I’m hoping to open before Valentine’s Day, subject to moving successfully. Ideally, that’s my goal,” owner Joffrey Hagop said.
“We had 10 years in Sanctuary Cove. It’s a long time in a special, unique, iconic Sanctuary Cove (location).

“It’s a family-owned business. We want to really challenge ourselves and find new horizons for the business.”
While Black Angus was famed for its sparkling view over the Sanctuary Cove marina, Mr Hagop said the opportunity to reopen in the tourist hub was too good to pass up.
“Being situated on the Gold Coast Hwy gives us a lot of advantages in positioning ourselves and becoming more convenient,” he said.
“I wanted something more prominent, in a busy district. Hence we are heading south to Surfers Paradise, a more touristy, more busy area.
“We want to have to continue doing what we do – the ambience, the fittings, rustic timber, offering more than a steakhouse.”
WHEN BURLEIGH HEAD’S FISH HOUSE IS CLOSING
A Hooters staff member yesterday confirmed they would officially close their doors at Surfers Paradise following the Super Bowl on Monday.
Hooters is an American restaurant and sports bar chain famous for its scantily clad waitresses with large breasts.
The Australian arm of the company was placed into voluntary administration in July last year, two years after being saved from bankruptcy by a new owner who had plans to revive the controversial business.
Gold Coast Hooters originally opened in Mermaid Beach in 2007 but the restaurant was destroyed by fire in 2011.
