WITH uncertainty surrounding border closures, Camplify founder and CEO Justin Hales says 2020 is the year of the Queensland road trip.
The caravan and motorhome sharing platform experienced a 120 per cent increase from travellers booking winter camping holidays compared to last year.
“We have already seen huge demand for road trips across the country, with families looking for socially distanced holiday options, particularly within their home states,” he says.
“Camplify’s mission has always been to make vanlife accessible to all.”
Here are four of the most unique hotel rooms on wheels that you can hire right here on the Gold Coast.
DOLCE SOLE CAMPER
Burleigh Heads, QLD
If it’s Instagrammable you’re after, this yellow Fiat Ducato features a custom vintage interior design by digital creators Tegan Phillipa (Instagram @teganphillipa) and Nathan Landers (@itsnedkelly).
The ready-to-roll van boasts most of the basic comforts of a small home, from 240v power for appliances to a nebula wall-mounted projector.
“We travel a lot internationally for work (pre-COVID-19) and we were coming back home to Australia with a few months to kill before the next overseas job,” Nathan says.
“In the process of planning an east coast road trip, an idea struck us to flip a campervan to call home while we were back in town.
“We shopped for the perfect van and finally found Dolce Sole – yellow was just pure luck.
“We wanted to create something unique and homely that exploded with character but still have that compact campervan design.”
Tegan says they drew on their own travels and scoured Pinterest for the Italian-inspired interior.
“Between work and travel, it took almost a year to complete but we can finally cut the red ribbon on Dolce Sole and now share her with everyone,” she says.
HERBERT
Tugun
This dreamy boho van is designed for short road trips, special occasions and effortless weekends away.
Owner Tenneil has cleared the clutter to make way for a spacious double spring bed and everything you need for sunrise cuppas and sweet sunset picnics.
“Travelling in Herb requires minimal effort because everything is already set up for you, which means you can spend more time enjoying exploring new areas instead of setting up camp,” she says.

“It gives you a euphoric sense of freedom being able to pull up on top of a headland, pop the boot and watch the sunrise or sunset while snuggling up in the van.”
SALTY THE CARAVAN
Tugun
Salty is a vintage viscount caravan with cruisy coastal vibes.
“It’s an old van that has been brought back to life for families to enjoy their adventures,” owner Jenna says.
The van comfortably sleeps four people with two single beds and a double at the other end of the van, with fresh linen, towels and handmade soaps supplied.
Tow Salty yourself or the owners can set her up for you in any location within 50km of Tugun.
YUGEN OLIVIA
Miami
The best kitchen you’re likely to find in a campervan leads a long list of features in this luxury room on wheels.
Yugen Olivia’s owner Lucy is an interior designer who thrives on the challenge of fitting out small spaces.

“In the past I have built shipping container cottages, so the vans were a new passion project,” she says.
“I wanted to include a full kitchen with a barbecue option, a toilet and hot-water shower, and space for three people to sleep.
“Everyone who hires the van comments on how everything has been thought of.
“Some people like to use the full kitchen, barbecue and microwave, some the toaster, some just fill the fridge with beers and then eat out.
“Everything in this van is top of the range and you will feel like you’re glamping your way on your adventures.
“The solar system is backed up with a 2kw inverter so if people want to travel off-grid they can, but if a hirer prefers to plug in, the van has this option and the system recognises where it is drawing the power from, so it’s a case of plugging in the van and relaxing.
“It also has the benefit of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to help you navigate your journey and stay connected.”
Lucy says the roof platform is a handy touch.
“The ladder to the platform was designed to carry long surf or stand-up boards and the roof platform gives people a better viewing point to watch the stars at night or do yoga or just relax and look at the world from a different viewpoint,” she says.
