A mum got the shock of her life after a huge carpet python slithered into her backyard, with her baby and dog just metres away.

A mum got the shock of her life after a “gigantic” carpet python slithered into her backyard with her baby and dog just metres away.

Mum Elli, of Arundel, was working from home with her one-year-old daughter Daisy on Monday afternoon when her dog started barking uncontrollably.

“It scared my little girl, she was barking so loud,” Elli said.

“I ran into the loungeroom and on the back patio I just saw this gigantic python.”

After wrangling her dog inside, the mum watched as the snake slithered away to the golf course adjacent to her home.

“I’m hoping it doesn’t come back while I’m not here,” she said.

“I think I’m going to leave the dog inside now.”

Despite the snake being several metres long – carpet pythons can grow up to 4m long – Elli said it wasn’t the scariest encounter she’s had in her backyard.

Two weeks ago, a water monitor lizard pumped into a blow up pool while Elli and Daisy were swimming.

The family also spotted a koala in their backyard.

“We have only been living here for six months,” Elli said.

“It’s like there’s a new thing everyday.”
