THEY'RE the little souls that no one wanted as crowds of people walked through the Animal Welfare League's Gold Coast shelter last weekend adopting hundreds of homeless pets.
By Sunday night, the Coombabah shelter was nearly empty except for a handful of dogs and cats who had watched their pen-mates be adopted across the two days and were left wondering `why not me?'.
During the mass adoption drive, 177 dogs and cats were rehomed out of 192 at the shelter - that's 92 per cent of the animals.
In the first three hours of the drive on Saturday, an animal was adopted every four minutes.
Another ten have been adopted in the days following.
In a bid to find the last few a home by Christmas, the AWLQ will keep the adoption prices discounted at $39 for cats and $99 for dogs until Friday.
