THE owner of two staffordshire terriers that attacked a pet pooch in Ashmore admits it’s not the the first time - but vows it will be the last.
Danny Boyle, owner of the pair of staffies, said he had persistently tried to contact the owners of the English springer spaniel attacked in the incident last Thursday.
Jaz, the injured canine, had its ear almost ripped off and bite wounds to her legs and chest.
However, Mr Boyle admitted it was not the first time his dogs had attacked someone’s pet.
“Yes, this has happened before and I vowed to never let it happen again,” he said in a post to the Gold Coast Bulletin Facebook page.

“Since then I’ve raised my back fence to six feet and replaced my new front gate with the top-of-the-line security gate. Last Thursday (the day of the attack) my dogs where locked securely in the backyard while the tradesman who installed the gate tended to a fault.
“He put his tools in the backyard and unknowingly let the dogs into the front enclosure, then the “foolproof” gate that was guaranteed to never fail – well, it failed – which all happened in a matter of 10 minutes.”
Mr Boyle said the culprit, his female staffordshire terrier Pepper, was a beautifully natured dog until she was mauled by another dog.
“Since that day Pepper has feared all other dogs and is now threatened by all dogs.”
Boyle said he had also been traumatised by the incident.
“I have tried to contact Jaz’s owners to apologise and obviously pay all the vet bills, but have had no luck,” Mr Boyle said.
“What happened was not only traumatic for the victim but also my wife and myself.
“We wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.”
DANNY BOYLE’S STATEMENT ON FACEBOOK YESTERDAY:
“I am the “Irresponsible” owner who surely must neglect my dogs!! How else could this happen!!??
My dogs have been loved and nurtured since they were eight weeks old, have both completed puppy school and passed with flying colours. My male is the biggest sook and still to this day drops in a submissive state if a little dog barks at him if he’s on his own. Pepper my female (who is the culprit) is also the most beautifully natured dog until she like Jaz was mauled by a little white fluffy thing. Since that day she has feared all other dogs until she couldn’t take care of herself. She is now threatened by all dogs.
This is just an explanation - don’t think for one second I’m trying to make excuses, I take full responsibility for my babies, and yes this has happened before, and I vowed to never let it happen again. Since then I have raised my back fence to 6ft and replaced my new front gate with the top of the line security gate which guarantees even if the power is cut it won’t open.
The day of the attack my dogs where locked securely in the backyard while the tradesman who installed the gate tended to a fault which needed the motor replaced, he had then put his tools in the backyard to keep them safe apparently, unknowingly letting the dogs into the front enclosure, then once he left for the new motor, the “fool proof” gate that was GUARANTEED not to EVER fail, well it failed... This all happened within a matter of 10 minutes.
I have since tried to contact the owners of Jaz and apologise and OBVIOUSLY pay all the vet bills, but have had no luck. What happened was not only traumatic for the victim but also my wife and myself, we wouldn’t wish this upon anyone, we love our dogs as do the rest of you and have done everything to avoid this. The only thing I didn’t do was put a simple $2 padlock on my back gate which I have now done.
I just hope this sheds a little light on the actual facts. Not once has anyone asked my side of the story apart from animal control who I am working with to find a safe outcome.”
