PET owners would be barking mad to miss out on this chance to go walkies and raise money for a good cause.
Anyone looking for a paw-fect way to spend this Sunday should register early for RSPCA Queensland’s biggest fundraising event of the year, the Million Paws Walk.
The annual walk will be held at the Broadwater Parklands, with hundreds of dog-lovers and their four-legged friends embarking on 1.5km or 3km walks.
RSPCA development officer Samantha Robson and her dog Zed will be among the many stepping out.
Ms Robson said organisers hoped to raise $250,000 statewide for dogs in need.
“It will be for a whole range of dogs that we come across at the RSPCA including those surrendered, abandoned or seized by inspectors,” she said.
“It will be an amazing day and will raise funds for a very important cause.”
The RSPCA estimates more than 17,000 people will participate at 26 locations statewide.
This year, RSPCA Queensland is encouraging Million Paws Walk participants to try to raise $150 each.
“Our annual operating costs are $39 million in Queensland and we receive less than 1 per cent of that figure in government funding, so every cent raised helps,” RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said.
“(Dogs) often need to be desexed and vaccinated before they have the chance to find a new home.”
Walkers are encouraged to register early online or on the day at the Great Lawn, Broadwater Parklands, Marine Parade, Southport from 8.30am. The walk starts at 10.30am and the event finishes at 1pm.
