Wildlife rescuers had to euthanise a kangaroo that made its way into the heart of Southport this week.

Dozens of witnesses reported the male kangaroo as it made its way along the Gold Coast Highway and even had a swim in the Broadwater.

The animal was finally cornered, but rescuers said it could not be saved because it had suffered severe stress.
