“Declare everything when you enter Australia,” he says.

Heard’s lawyer said “some good” could come of the charges if the pair could “draw attention” to the importance of declaring items at customs.

Prosecutor Peter Callaghan SC told the court Ms Heard was required ‘like any other person’ to fill out an incoming passenger card.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have entered the court room but head magistrate Bernadette Callaghanhas not yet arrived to hear the plea.

Heard was seen asking Depp “are you okay? I love you” and has asked his chair be moved away from the media scrum.

Heard and husband Johnny Depp arrived at the Southport Court House earlier this morning ahead of her appearance on charges relating to the dogs to Australia.

SOUTHPORT Magistrates Court will take centre stage in its own Hollywood drama today as superstar Johnny Depp and wife Amber Heard front up for the final scenes in their infamous dog-smuggling saga.

Security will be beefed up at the court with Ms Heard expected to appear in person after allegedly illegally importing her yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo while her husband was filming Pirates Pirates of the Caribbean 5 on the Gold Coast last year.

Mr Depp is likely to take to the stand as a witness among a dozen others.

The couple landed on the Gold Coast early yesterday morning in a private jet and are believed to be staying at Palazzo Versace for the duration of the court case, which could result in Heard being fined heavily or even jailed.

However, insiders believe some 11th-hour negotiations could have the matter resolved for good as early as today.

There had been speculation about whether the glamorous couple would even turn up, as US media have been reporting that Heard is expecting their first child.

A spokeswoman for the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions confirmed there were provisions for Heard to be excused from attending court in person if her legal team were to make an application to the court.

However their arrival on the Coast yesterday suggests that won’t be necessary.

Ms Heard’s barrister Paula Morreau did not respond to phone calls by the Gold Coast Bulletin yesterday.

But one Government source said there was the possibility the two sides could reach an agreement to short-circuit the trial.

Heard was charged with two counts of illegal importation and one of producing a false document — her incoming passenger card — after allegedly smuggling the dogs into the country on a private jet last April.

Acting Prime Minister and Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce famously told the A-list couple’s dogs to ‘bugger off’ back to the US, threatening to put them down if they outstayed their welcome in May last year.

A spokeswoman for Minister Joyce said yesterday the acting PM would have ‘a lot’ to say once it was past the court.

“The law applies to everyone,” she said.

“The government will have more to say once proceedings have concluded.

“Our Australian biosecurity laws exist for a reason and we are doing everything we can to ensure our country remains free from pests and diseases.”

Heard’s legal team entered an official plea of not guilty to the charges in December.

Heard could face up to 10 years in jail and a fine of $100,000 if found guilty.

Depp is not facing any charges but is believed to be one of a dozen witnesses named in a secret document due to be opened in court today.

Southport sergeant Bill Lithgow said police would be on high alert.

“We will be taking the necessary security precautions given the high profile of this case,” Mr Lithgow said.

“We have to make sure everyone is safe.”

Authorities were tipped off the dogs had been imported illegally when they were photographed at Maudsland dog groomer Happy Dogz.

Owner Leanne Kent said she copped backlash on social media for more than a month after the actors fell into legal trouble.

“I had people calling and abusing me until 2am,” Ms Kent said.

“I’m not the one who imported them into Australia, I just cleaned them.

“Their lawyer called me about two weeks ago from Sydney but I didn’t end up getting back to them.

“I’m not sure what that would’ve been about.

“They were happy to have the dogs in a photo and for it to be on social media.”

Not since Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was busted for drink-driving on a moped 16 years ago has there been such a high-profile celebrity court case on the Glitter Strip.
