SHE may work away from animals in a gift shop but Katie-Maree Kimber knows the best place to see our wildlife is in the undergrowth.

From butterflies to grasshoppers, hundreds of insect species can be seen wandering throughout an Aussie backyard.

Manager of the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk gift shop, Ms Kimber, said there was nothing better than admiring the unique patterns of butterflies, especially the richmond birdwing.

“The males are mostly green and the females they are bigger and they are black and white patterns,” she said.

“I love their colours and they are very rare butterflies so we are extremely lucky to have them here.”

The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk has become a leading breeder of the rare species for more than four years, planting 1000 richmond birdwing butterfly vines to attract them.
