GOLD Coast residents are being urged to choose bilbies, not bunnies this Easter.
Chocolate bilbies, that is.
Dreamworld, in conjunction with Pink Lady, hopes residents will choose the confectionary company’s chocolate bilby for the holiday period, which traditionally celebrates the Easter bunny.
TINDER FOR GOLD COAST’S BILBIES
“With every Pink Lady Easter bilby chocolate purchased, a portion of the profits are directed straight towards the Save the Bilby Fund, so I encourage everyone to choose the bilby over the Easter bunny to help save the species from extinction,” Dreamworld general manager life sciences Al Mucci said.
The odd-looking animals are endangered throughout Australia and now only occupy about 20 per cent of their former range.
Luckily, Dreamworld has a longstanding breeding program and recently welcomed three adorable, long-nosed babies in January.
The bilbies will eventually be released into a protected area at Currawinya National Park, near Cunnamulla in the state’s southwest, as part of a release program.
Dreamworld will host activities including face painting, cookie decorating and live bilby talks for kids from April 19 to 21, educating them about the plight of bilbies.
