WHEN Currumbin Wildlife Hospital throw their doors wide open to the public, there’s no telling what furry, feathery or scaly patients they’ll see that day.
It could be one of the 500 koalas the hospital sees each year, or a lorikeet that flew into a window. It could even an injured lace monitor.
Just one thing is certain, says senior veterinarian Dr Michael Pyne, that more than 30 animals will come through the hospital doors needing medical attention.

On February 23, visitors will receive a rare ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at the wildlife hospital.
They will not only be able to watch vets and nurses working to save animals in real time, but walk through the clinic and view areas normally off-limits to the public, such as its radiology room or in-house laboratory.

“This is a real opportunity to see the hospital and contribute,” Dr Pyne told the Bulletin.
“They’ll be able to get up and close to the action … it will be real cases coming in that we’re dealing with. “They can ask questions and be part of it.”
Tickets start at $10 for a child, $20 for an adult and include admission into the sanctuary from 2pm until 5pm. All proceeds will go to supporting the hospital.
