LITTLE Arlo the staffy puppy received good news today with the return of her test results — but she still has a way to go.
Today the 12-week-old puppy was cleared from infectious diseases after her test results came back negative, according to her foster carer Megan Payette, dog supervisor at the Gold Coast Animal Welfare League of Queensland shelter.
She said while the news was really positive, Arlo still required extra care to get better.
“We still have to do rehab everyday,” Ms Payette said.
“We have a long road to go ... she’s still really wobbly on her legs and tires quickly, so her physio is really important.”
The blue staffy pup captured the hearts of Gold Coasters after “Operation Get Arlo Walking” went viral online, with more than 100 people donating $3000 in less than a day to help her get the care she needed.
Arlo was dropped to the Coombabah shelter three weeks ago in a basket and shelter staff immediately fell in love with the cutie.
They kicked off her campaign with treatments like hydrotherapy, courses of antibiotics and even a spinal tap.
Ms Payette said the dog had now started to walk and run with the larger dogs but wouldn’t be recovering so well without the intensive treatments.
“The spinal tap was $1,200 alone and her ongoing costs will be considerable so we looked to raise $3,000,” she said.
Since the campaign began three days ago 170 people have donated $4,870 at Arlo’s GoFundMe.com page.
The AWLQ said the additional funds would be put toward other animals who need special treatment.
