DOG owners are being warned to take responsibility for their pets after another vicious dog attack.
A Pacific Pines family was left fearing for their lives when their blue cattle dog was savagely attacked by two dogs at a park on Victoria Drive.
The dog was rushed to surgery after the incident and was left with a 10cm wound to its right ear.
LABRADOR LOCALS HUNT KILLER STAFFIES
The injured dog’s owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, said fellow pet owners needed to take responsibility for their dogs and keep control of them.
“We noticed the people were not holding onto their leads and the dogs took off our way. Then they started scuffing and the white dog just latched on to our dog’s neck. Then I had to let the leash go because I was obviously concerned for my own safety,” she said.
“I don’t feel very comfortable in any park or just an off- leash park. Having obedience of your dog should be mandatory for any owner because there is no particular breed of dog who could do this.”
The incident has been reported to council which is investigating.
The attack came after a fox terrier was mauled to death by two American staffies in Labrador recently.
Gold Coast Dog Obedience Training Club Inc. vice president and chief instructor of obedience Cyn Fisher said it was important that dog owners took responsibility and only let dogs off the leash when it was appropriate.
“If owners have any doubt they shouldn’t let their dogs off,” she said.
“It comes down to human judgment ... and you let a dog off because you know that you are going to get it back.”
