There are five animals still waiting to find a home as part of the Bulletin’s 12 Strays of Christmas appeal.
The campaign, which aims to rehome dogs and cats in need during the holiday season, is part of Animal Welfare League Queensland’s mega adoption drive, taking place on the weekend of December 3 and 4.

The goal of the drive is to rehome 200 animals with adoption fees reduced to $30 for cats and $99 for dogs.
AWLQ spokesman Craig Montgomery said the Gold Coast shelter had an average of 1145 stray and homeless animals in care every day.
“In October alone we had 1000 animals surrendered - which is a lot,” he said.
“That’s on top of the strays we take in.
“Typically, we see about 800 surrenders a month. (This figure) has been increasing month on month since July, which is concerning.
“It’s largely because of the lack of not only pet-friendly accommodation, but accommodation in general on the Gold Coast.”
All cats and dogs adopted through AWLQ are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed. Standard adoption processes apply.
AWLQ will never euthanise a healthy, sociable or treatable animal and is dedicated to providing the best care possible to every animal that comes through its doors.
The Gold Coast animal rehoming centre is at 21 Shelter Rd, Coombabah.
