Peloton announces its cult fitness product is launching in Australia

After months of speculation, fitness brand Peloton is giving in to the demands of Australian fans with the arrival of a much-wanted workout.

Cult fitness brand Peloton has announced it is finally launching its highly sought-after treadmill in Australia.

The at-home workout, which boomed globally during the pandemic, launched Down Under with the arrival of its bike in July 2021 and has already amassed a solid local community of members who have taken almost two million digital classes.

Despite the impressive uptake in digital memberships, Aussies have been keen to get their hands on the full Peloton range available overseas – namely the brand’s $4445 treadmill.

Now, after months of speculation and relentless pleas from desperate Aussies, the brand has confirmed its Peloton Tread will be available here soon.

“Ever since we launched Peloton in Australia, our members have been eager to experience the Peloton Tread, so we’re excited to finally confirm that we’ll be making this best-in-class treadmill available from this February 2023,” Amanda Gilmore, Peloton Australia’s country manager, told news.com.au.

“We’ve been really excited by the uptake and positive response from Australian consumers who have been quick to embrace our digital fitness experience.

“In fact, during our first 12 months of being in market, Peloton’s Australian Members completed 1.95 million workouts, with cycling leading in popularity and accounting for over half (1.02 million) of classes taken.”

“Other fitness modalities such as yoga, pilates, strength training, outdoor running and boxing followed closely behind (925,000), demonstrating the value that Australians receive when using our connected fitness experience,” she continued.

“The launch of Pelton Tread gives us another opportunity to introduce more Australians to our brand, as well as tell the stories of our incredible community and how Peloton has helped them achieve their health and fitness goals.”

Much like the Peloton Bike, the treadmill comes with a digital screen which gives users access to a comprehensive library of workouts that is updated daily from instructors in the US and UK.

“This is one of the key defining factors about the treadmill that sets Peloton apart from its competitors,” Ms Gilmore said.

“Peloton Tread offers thousands of live and on-demand classes for people of all levels, so you can tailor your workout to suit your mood, time constraints, location or goals.

“It takes away the intimidation surrounding fitness and learning something new, by allowing people to find enjoyment in exercise like never before, working out on their own terms whenever and wherever they like.”

Rumours about the Tread’s impending arrival on our shores have been swirling in fan groups for months, with many pleading for it to be true.

“Has anyone heard anything about the Tread coming to us? I feel as though it’s never going to arrive in Oz,” one fan wrote in a Facebook group recently.

“Are the Peloton Tread rumours true? I’ve been waiting for one for 18 months!” another said.

“It’s not fair. We need the treadmill here soon,” a third wrote.

Anyone keen to purchase the treadmill who isn’t already will need to join the Peloton app which costs $59 per month.

Access gives users unlimited classes for the treadmill and bike as well as a range of other fitness disciplines, including outdoor running, strength, bootcamp, yoga and meditation.

The bike, which is available in two forms – Peloton Bike priced at $2145 and the Bike+ which has a price tag of $3345 – were met with rave reviews after launching.

But be warned, the workouts aren’t for the faint-hearted, with both bike and treadmill users declaring them “hardcore”.

You will need plenty of space though, as it takes up the size of a “small couch”.

As well as running, members can take part in “Tread bootcamp” classes which combine running with weight training. There are also walking and hiking classes.

The Tread+ – which was engulfed in a major recall in the US after it was linked to the death of a three-year-old – will not be available in Australia.

Anyone keen to test out the treadmill ahead of its release in February can head to a Peloton showroom or official retail locations to trial the device and get a free workout.
