Cult home fitness program Peloton launches in Australia

A hugely popular at-home fitness program with millions of devotees has arrived in Australia – but membership doesn’t come cheap.

How Peloton Adapted on the Fly Amid Covid-19

Cult fitness brand Peloton is launching in Australia, becoming the fifth country to have access to the at-home workouts.

From July 14, Australians will be able to purchase the bikes that work alongside a fitness app to deliver a variety of workouts.

However, the kit doesn’t come cheap, with the Peloton Bike priced at $2895 while the Bike+ has a price tag of $3695.

Monthly membership for unlimited virtual classes are $59 while app access that doesn’t require the use of Peloton machinery costs $16.99 after a 90-day free trial period.

Peloton Australia’s country manager, Karen Lawson, said the entire local Peloton team cannot wait to welcome Aussies to its ever-growing community of 5.4 million global members.

“Australians are passionate about health and wellbeing and have always had their finger on the pulse when it comes to fitness technology and experiences, which is why we believe Peloton is positioned to provide Australians with a completely new way to work out,” Ms Lawson said.

“There will be something for everyone; whether it’s a live ride from the comfort of their own home, or a class taken anywhere they like to work-out using the Peloton App,” she added.

“The app has more than 10 fitness disciplines, including outdoor running, strength, bootcamp, yoga and meditation. We have so much to offer, as we look to redefine fitness in Australia.”

The company, which counts US President Joe Biden, singer Alicia Keys and pop star Justin Bieber amongst its devotees, has copped criticism for its hefty pricing in the past.

While the bikes will be available online and in new retail stores opening in Sydney and Melbourne, Peloton won’t sell its treadmills following reports linking the death of a three-year-old child to the machine and dozens more being injured.

Sales of Peloton equipment soared during the pandemic as virus-weary people avoid gyms and worked out at home instead.

The company generated in $US1 billion in revenue in the last three months of 2020, more than double its revenue from the same period a year before.

The high-end indoor exercise bike, which comes with a built-in screen connecting you to lifestream and on-demand classes, also announced an Australian coach will join trainers who teach out of studios in London and New York.
