Influencer confuses fans with baby name

Aussie fitness star and influencer Ashy Bines has sparked confusion among her thousands of followers over the correct way to pronounce her newborn daughter’s unique name.

The 32-year-old announced the birth of her second child — with husband Steven Evans — late last month.

“TALA,” Bines wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of her daughter in a white romper.

But not all of her fans were sure at first on the pronunciation — thinking that “Tala” (with an ‘ah’ sound after the T) would be pronounced “Taylor”, Influencer Updates AU said in a clip on TikTok.

“Congratulations. How do you pronounce her name?” one person commented on Bines’ post.

Bines, who also has an eight-year-old son, Taj, was quick to clear up the misconceptions.

“Pronounced like LALA or NALA but TALA (for those asking),” she explained.

“Tala meanings ~ Gold, Star, Story, Noble & Wolf Princess, little palm tree and pretty girl (only learnt this after we announced and which countries the meanings coming from! So so cool”.

TikTok users were quick to point out under the Influencer Updates AU video that they didn’t understand why so many were confused about the name.

“That’s 100 per cent not confusing,” commented one.

“How’s the confusing lol,” wrote a second.

“Tala. Like Nala. Why people adding a silent y,” added a third.

“It’s definitely Tala. It’s really popular in the Philippines,” another explained. “My partner is Filipino and it’s on our list for a future baby.”

Bines — who announced she was expecting her daughter in November — was candid throughout her pregnancy about being “mum shamed” because of the size of her belly.

“Already having mum hate come at me because of the size of my belly? Like there is a ‘right’ or ‘normal’ size to be? ” she said in December.

“Everyone’s bodies are SO different, carry differently, show differently and hold a baby differently. And I think EVERY pregnant belly is beautiful no matter what.

“But for me, there is a little belly and there is a REAL HUMAN BEING growing inside and it’s something I’ll never get sick of feeling proud to show.”

Earlier this year, she said her pregnancy had been “a rollercoaster of emotions”.

“Some days/weeks I feel amazing, physically, emotionally, and mentally,” Bines wrote in a post, “and other days/weeks I’m really not coping.”
