A dad-to-be accidentally ruined his baby's gender reveal

And the entire mishap was caught on his doorbell camera.

Another day, another gender reveal gone wrong, but thankfully, no planes crashed or local grasslands caught on fire.

It was just the element of surprise that was ruined.. by the dad himself, no less.

The disappointing moment the dad found out the gender

According to Newsweek, the expectant couple Simon and Bronagh Laverty were planning a gender reveal party where they would pop a balloon that would contain either blue or pink confetti. 

But, it didn't exactly pan out how they wanted to.

In a video captured by the couple's doorbell camera, the dad-to-be can be seen carting items for the party from the house to the car.

In one clip, he's seen holding the gender reveal balloon, which suddenly bursts, shedding blue confetti all over the ground. 

Not only did he mess the surprise up for himself, but to make matters worse, his wife watched the whole thing unfold in real-time on the camera.

She had received a notification from the camera's built-in motion detector, so opened her phone only to be greeted with a screen full of blue confetti.

They still went on with the party

She called Simon straight away, asking: "What just happened?! Have we literally just found out what we're having?"

Simon said the pair went through a lot of emotions during that call, but most of all, he was just happy and relieved that she had seen the reveal at the same time he did.

Despite the rough start, the couple were still set on making sure the guests of their gender reveal still got a surprise, so they decided to go through with it anyway.

"To be honest we had to play along with the whole thing and make sure no one else knew that we found out before the new balloon had popped, as we didn't want to ruin the surprise for everyone else," he recalled.

They rushed to the shops to grab a new balloon before heading to the party, and everyone was none the wiser.

It was only after the party that they shared with their friends and family what had really happened and showed them the hilarious footage. 

"We look back at the video all the time, it gives us a laugh about what happened and how we found out," the dad said. "Catching it on camera was even more special than doing it in front of friends and family as we can keep and cherish it."

The parents look forward to the day they can show their son Theo the footage and tell him that is how they found out what he was going to be.
