‘OMG’: Unexpected item the star of Kmart’s 2025 Christmas range

Kmart has revealed a hot new trend has emerged, right at the end of the year, and customers are running to get their hands on it.

This Christmas, Kmart has crowned a colour combo that many would consider the least likely as a festive contender – and it’s already winning over shoppers.

To prove it, on Wednesday the retailer took over a real home in a quiet Brighton street, just south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, instantly becoming the buzz of the neighbourhood.

The takeover also meant shoppers could get a head start on the pieces they’ll inevitably rave about on TikTok, while secretly trying to hoard them for their own carts.

One colour dominated the entire space, and it was impossible to miss.

Kmart isn’t chasing a white Christmas this year… they’re embracing a true girly-pop style.

“It’s all about the pink and red together and bows. We obviously have the traditional ranges, but there’s also elements of traditional sitting with the modern pops of pink and red together,” a spokesperson for the budget brand told news.com.au.

It all comes tied up in a perfect little (or large) bow. The print is stamped on everything from tea towels to tableware, making it one of the most widespread themes in the range.

“I think it’s actually probably been more about the bows as a whole,” the spokesperson said.

“So there’s a bow doona cover, which people are absolutely loving. There’s decorations. What we’re trying to do this year is more surprising so everyone can put their own touch on it.”

But it’s one oversized decor piece that is the new topper in town: the giant tree bow. The retailer says they can barely keep it on shelves as shoppers rush to give their Christmas trees a bold, on-trend look.

One TikTok user used the $12 bow to decorate the front door claiming “the wreath is out and the oversized bows are having their moment.”

With it sold out pretty much everywhere, the desperation to get one is clear online.

“Omggg sold out everywhere near me and online,” one commenter complained.

“This is so cute,” another praised.

A third added: “Omg what a need!”

Others are absolutely eating up the colour scheme that Kmart have offered up this year.

“This is my vibe,” a user proclaimed.

“OMG CUTE! I am now going to Kmart tomorrow!” Another insisted.

“Help! I want it all.” a third said.

Gingerbread is also having a major moment. Not just the edible, gumdrop button kind.

Kmart has rolled out an entire gingerbread-inspired collection with the retailer stating its gingerbread cookie jar is shaping up to be the hot decor item everyone wants on their kitchen bench during the silly season.

There’s also a range of matching kitchenware, including whimsical tongs, bathroom items and serving pieces, but the gingerbread house salt and pepper shakers might just be the sleeper hit of the season.

They’re tiny, adorable and destined to fly from shelves once TikTok finds them.

But perhaps what makes this season’s collection especially clever is that it isn’t pigeonholed to December.

Many of the pieces work for year-round dinner parties, entertaining, or for families who don’t celebrate Christmas but still want to add something fun to the home.

Much of it is durable, too. It has been designed to be packed away and brought back out year after year without losing its charm.

“There’s some beautiful crockery. There’s tablecloths, which are made from materials. That’s really easy to wash and dry,” the spokesperson shared.

“It’s there for the fun of Christmas and then store it away and bring it back next Christmas as well.”

And in a very welcome bonus for anyone who avoids ironing, Kmart says some of the tablecloths don’t even need one.

As for the presents, from splurgers to strict $10 Secret Santa limits, there is something for every budget, the retailer said.

“From a gifting point of view, the slushy maker is always going crazy and we’ve got new stock coming in of that,” the spokesperson shared.

Then there’s the item that has millennial heartstrings wrapped tightly around its little retro casing. Kmart’s pink handycam which retails for $39. It’s an adorable throwback gadget straight out of a 90s sleepover that screams nostalgia.

It’s one of the items you’ll wish this article gatekept a little harder. (Sorry.)

Toy selection has likely never been harder for Santa. Old favourites such as LEGO, Barbie and a fun selection of bikes and scooters will be up for grabs.

But one toy in particular is a $5 no-brainer for stockings.

“What we’ve been loving this year, though, is the mini bricks. You make your own little Christmas tree,” the spokesperson revealed.

Parents will also be pleased to know they will be able to find plenty to inspire their Elf on the Shelf set ups.

The retailer is also excited to welcome back the Wishing Tree in its 38th year, giving families who might be struggling a little extra wonder during the most wonderful time of the year.

If you’re one of those shoppers who never seem to have much luck getting the items you want at Kmart, need not panic.

A Christmas miracle has arrived, in the form of an insider tip you’ll want to jump on before you even get in the car.

“We’re getting new stock in every week, so look on the app. The Kmart app is my hot tip because that’ll tell you which store it’s in stock as well. You can then do a click and collect to make sure that you can get them,” a spokesperson recommended.
