Odd reason shoppers are fuming over Target's Christmas range
“I’ll never not be mad about this!”
You wouldn’t be alone if you’ve ever done a double take, thinking you’re in Kmart, when you’re shopping at a Target store in Australia.
The retailer has slowly stocked more and more Anko products - Kmart’s in-house brand - particularly in their homewares section.
But, there’s one OG Target range in particular that Aussies are sad to see go.

“It is still devastating”
Though it’s only September, more and more Aussie stores are beginning to bring out their Christmas ranges.
It seems we’ve skipped Halloween altogether, heading straight for red baubles and Christmas trees filling the aisles.
It’s supposed to be gleeful and inspiring. But, for Target shoppers, it’s anything but.
“Just wondering what we did to deserve Target ditching their Christmas range and giving us Anko?” said Gold Coast mum @chelsea_bennett9 in a video to TikTok.
“3 years without Target Christmas decor and it is still devastating.”
“I’ll never not be mad about this!”
Commenters on the post made it clear that they were feeling the same way.
“I was hoping it would change this year after all the emails they received regarding this change last year! I guess not,” one person said.
“It’s actually so devastating. Target’s Christmas range was my favourite every year,” said another.
“I’ll never not be mad about this,” a third agreed.
“Makes me so sad. Target's Christmas stuff was actually quite decent quality for the price. Kmarts is rubbish and just breaks,” said another commenter.
Some even gave alternative recommendations for shoppers.
“Thank goodness for Bed Bath N' Table and TK Maxx,” one person said.
“Go to Bed Bath N' Table or Adairs,” another suggested.
Christmas is over before it began
The shift first began in 2023, when Kmart and Target parent company Wesfarmers said they would introduce “select Anko ranges across hard home and general merchandise into Target stores” from early 2024.
Brian Walker, CEO of retail consultancy Retail Doctor Group told news.com.au at the time that the term “hard home” implied Target will sell Anko-branded homeware products such as decor items, small furniture and appliances.
Now, we know that this also applies to their Christmas products.
Speaking to Kidspot, a Target spokesperson said they will continue to tweak their collections in line with customer feedback.
“Since early 2024, Target has ranged selected Anko products. While we are confident customers will like the curation of our products, like always, we will continue to test and learn in response to customer feedback,” the spokesperson said.
Kidspot has contacted Target for comment.
