Neighbour's note about bin night shocks internet, but not for why you'd think

She had to step in when she noticed her neighbours, who had just welcomed twins, were struggling with this weekly task.

A neighbourly gesture has surprised the internet, proving that community spirit still exists despite what countless stories about the contrary may have you believe.

In a post to a local Facebook group, a woman shared the handwritten note she was planning on giving to her neighbour, offering an unusually kind proposal about bin night.

"I wanted to be kind and help a little"

The note reads: "Hey neighbours, I’m in [redacted] next door. Just wanted to be kind and help a little. If you guys don’t want to overload your bins, you are more than welcome to chuck some bags in my bins. They are very disgusting, but I’d be more than happy to share them - lol. Hope it helps. Sorry to be so random. :)"

She captioned the post, "Would you be creeped if your neighbour put a note like this in your letter box?"

"They are very quiet people but recently have twins, and I just want to help take a little stress off on the bin weeks," she continued. "I know what it's like to overload. I used to care for my three teenage nephews. I was ashamed to ask my neighbours if I could throw a bag in their bin."

"It's lovely!"

Commenters quickly assured her it wasn't creepy - quite the opposite, actually.

One person wrote, "Definitely not. As on bin night, there may be a night that I do have to rampage a rubbish bag in the neighbour’s bin."

Another shared, "I think it’s lovely! Nothing worse than having too much rubbish and the birds getting into it!"

Then a mum shared, "As a mumma who has had two sets of twins, this is super helpful."

And a fellow parent agreed: "We have four kids, two still in nappies, and this would be so helpful to us! My husband has had to do a few runs down the street to put rubbish in someone else's bins."

One member added, "This is lovely, and I’m sure they will appreciate the gesture more than you realise," while another joked, "If someone offered up their bin for my extra garbage/recycling, they’d be put in my will, and I’d make them a cake every month."

Others admitted that they just put their overflowing rubbish in other people's bins without them knowing.

"People ask? I just put it in," someone revealed.

"Girl, same," someone replied, "but I feel like a criminal and run back home in shame."

"I always thought this was illegal, so I wait till after 11 pm to do it!" another commenter shared.
