Myer reveals ‘nostalgic’ shopping trend on the rise in Australia
A major retailer has revealed that Aussies are snapping up an unexpected item, one that taps into our “sense of nostalgia”.
It might be the height of summer, but the lack of snow won’t stop Aussies embracing a traditional Christmas.
Myer has revealed shoppers are snapping up items that are distinctly festive, exposing our need for a classic silly season that “creates a sense of nostalgia”, and warned those looking to get in on the trend might already be too late.
Products featuring deep red hues and the tartan print are currently flying off shelves, prompting many on social media to declare the Australian department store had “really upped its game”.

“Myer’s festive collection this year is built around five key themes, but there’s something timeless about the Heirloom range – featuring classic reds, tartan, and timeless decor that Australians love,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.
“With its reds, tartans, and traditional decorations, it creates that sense of nostalgia that is resonating with our customers this season.
“It feels warm, familiar, and full of joy, and we’ve received feedback that it reminds customers of a classic Christmas movie such as Home Alone.”
A full selection of decorations, including trees, baubles, wreaths, garlands, and tabletop pieces is available within each of the five themes, which also includes Luxe, Harvest, Candyland and Eucalyptus – a range inspired by the Australian landscape.
Social media has gone nuts over the native-inspired collection, particularly its bauble range, which features adorable kangaroos, cockatoos and koalas.
“So cute,” declared one on TikTok.
“Oh my God,” stated another.
As one added: “It’s all so luxe.”
One mum revealed in a video that she takes her little one to the retailer to choose their own tree decoration, describing it as her “favourite Christmas tradition”.
“This is so fun,” replied one.
“Such a good idea,” added another.
“We are five years into this and the tree is filled with so much mismatched joy! It’s the best,” shared someone else.
Others said checking out department store’s Christmas Window display in Melbourne was something they did “without fail”, noting the fact it was free helped amid the current cost-of-living crisis.
Those wishing to snag any of the cult-Christmas decorations will need to act fast, as the retailer has revealed often the festive decorations “sell out” before we hit December.
