Wild reason why Aldi shelves stripped bare

Photos revealing the fresh food section of one popular supermarket completely stripped bare has left shoppers stumped.

Aldi ranked as the cheapest supermarket to buy groceries in a new report

An image revealing the fresh food section of one supermarket completely stripped bare has left shoppers stumped.

A woman took to popular Facebook page Aldi Fans Australia to share a photo of the shelves in the fresh food area without any stock at an Aldi store in Parramatta, in Sydney’s west.

“Does anyone know what happened at Aldi Parramatta today? The fruit and veg shelves were all empty. It was really unusual,” the woman captioned the post.

Many social media users weighed in on the images, with some revealing that their local Aldi looked similar and others speculating it had to do with deliveries and back-to-back public holidays.

“I was there yesterday morning and it had decent stock. The banana section at the front was completely full. Fridges had stock. Veggies were there, fruit looked a bit picked over. I’m kinda shocked seeing this. lol,” one social media user commented.

One said: “We had same in Coffs Harbour this afternoon, not quite as bad but still very low stock.”

“Everyone panicked because they closed the shops for the WHOLE day on Anzac Day. No one coped. My Aldi was the same on Thursday,” another added.

One social media user said: “It usually gets bad especially if they are in the process of changing providers.”

“Apparently if their delivery doesn’t get into its timeslot on time it’s turned away. I was told this when I asked about this at my local store, by the manager,” someone else said.

Another commented: “Probably a delivery issue from there warehouse.”

“I went shopping at Aldi this morning and it looked like the day after Christmas shopping,” one said.

“I spoke with my daughter who had been yesterday and she said there were so many people shopping it was like the shops had been closed for weeks.”

Another added: “There was hardly any meat, fruit and veggies in Toronto Lake Macquarie last night either, something to do with there delivery I’m assuming.”

“My Aldi had a lot of shelves bare in bread and produce areas yesterday. It was the day after Anzac Day buy up apparently,” one commented.

One person said: “I’d say because of the public holiday delivery delays my Aldi was like this too today.”

“Surely not panic shoppers like old times,” one added.

However, a simple mechanical issue appeared to be the issue at the store in question. news.com.au understands the lift at the Parramatta store was broken, impacting the ability to unload deliveries and restock shelves.

This has now been remedied and the store is working to replenish stock.
