Macca’s is bringing back a cult menu item more than 10 years after it was last on sale in Australia.

McDonald’s Australia is releasing the all new Maltesers McFlurry as part of a limited-edition menu items.

The dessert will feature Macca’s iconic soft serve ice cream with chocolate sauce which is then topped with Maltesers.

It launches in stores across the country tomorrow, on March 22.

“We know how much love there is for our McFlurry collaborations, so we are very excited to launch the Maltesers McFlurry and bring together our iconic soft serve with light and delicious Maltesers,” Liz Whitbread, senior brand manager for McDonald’s Australia, told news.com.au.

“If you’re looking for an afternoon snack or dessert after dinner, the Maltesers McFlurry will satisfy those cravings every time.”

It’s not the first time the menu item has featured on Macca’s menus – it was previously a menu item back in 2012.

In the UK, it became a permanent menu item in 2019 after British customers became enthralled with the frozen treat.

Social media users immediately fell in love with the idea of the Maltesers McFlurry returning to Australian McDonald’s restaurants.

“Big yeah,” one social media user commented, after an image of the sweet treat was shared by food blogger @nectoriouspapi.

One person said they thought the ice cream would be better with caramel sauce rather than chocolate, as it is currently sold.

Another tagged their friend and said: “Look out.”

In November last year, McDonald’s released another temporary McFlurry flavour – the Cadbury Caramilk Hokey Pokey McFlurry.

It was released as part of the summer menu alongside items such as the El Maco, a burger that was last available in Australia in 2019.

The burger consisted of either a chicken or beef patty, cheese and tomato, sour cream and Mexican salsa.
