A major change is coming to KitKat bars and technology is being blamed.

Nestle Australia unveiled a $30 million investment in its factory in Campellfield, Victoria - where most KitKats sold in Australia are manufactured on Sunday - and announced the technological advancements that would come from this investments would mean changes to the much-loved chocolate bar.

It means KitKat bars will now no longer be 45 grams, but three grams smaller.

“KitKat fans love to see new ways to break – and the new technology we have installed in our factory allows us to create new flavours and fillings, textures and tastes,” Nestlé general manager confectionery Andrew Lawrey said.

“Part of the investment is a new wafer oven, which will enhance the entire KitKat range by improving our wafer quality. We’re excited that this new technology will help us to deliver a crispier, more consistent ‘snap’ – the iconic break that KitKat is famous for.

“There is a slight change in our wafer size as the moulds compatible with the new technology are smaller, which will see our KitKat 4 Finger bar move from 45g to 42g.”

The huge investment into the future of KitKat will also see manual handling reduced, as well as minimise food and packaging waste.

It will also make the job safer for operators, according to Mr Lawrey. The factory currently employs 400 people. It also makes Aero, Smarties, Milkybar and Chokito.

The first chocolate bar to be made using the new technology was the KitKat Neapolitan.

Food influencer Nectro, who goes by @nectoriouspapi online shared his review of the new KitKat in November.

“It looks cool. Alright, I want to take a bite of each,” he told his social media following.

“This taste like you’ve got the Neapolitan ice cream and instead of scooping each flavour, you’ve scooped in the middle to get all three flavours.

“It tastes like that but with wafer.”

He said if you liked all three flavours in one hit, it would be a good chocolate bar for those people.

The chocolate bar will retail for $2.50 for a small version and a block will be $7.
