Tableside cheese wheels, 48-hour fermented pizza, house-made focaccia and boozy slushies will be on the menu at the city’s “hip new” Italian restaurant.
Mozza Mozza kitchen and bar will open this Saturday from 5pm at the former Carmody’s Restaurant site inside Southport Sharks.
A four-metre tall olive tree will be the centerpiece of the 160-seat family-friendly dining spot, serving up classic Italian dishes with a side of disco tunes.
Delivering menu highlights such as Mozza puff pizza bread, Nonna’s meatballs and crab spaghetti will be Chef Hat Award winner and Gold Coast local Mitch Chesterton.
The head chef has worked in multiple top-flight restaurants including Alchemy, Peak Dining at Iceworks in Paddington and was also the chef/owner of Iku in Burleigh.
Mozza Mozza’s owner is well-known hospitality identity Dave Galvin of Crafty’s Sports Bar.
Mr Galvin said his new venture was created to offer share-style Italian food for families and groups.
“It’s all about classic, family-style dishes served with a little bit of theatre,” he said.
“With an 18-seat private dining room – the only one north of Broadbeach – and sprawling seating throughout, Mozza Mozza is intentionally well equipped for groups, celebrations and parties.
“And we’ll be throwing in some 80s music and disco tunes to add to the atmosphere.”
The restaurant will open for lunch from Friday to Sunday 11.30am to 3pm and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday 5pm til late.
