Flash flooding hits Coast as severe thunderstorm alert issued by BOM

Roads have been left swamped by flashing flooding as another alert is issued for the Gold Coast warning of hailstones, damaging winds and flash flooding.

YET another wild weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology as the Gold Coast is lashed by flash flooding.

At 4.50pm BOM issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the city as it travels from northeast to southeast.

Damaging winds, flash flooding and large hailstones are likely, the Bureau said.

Flash flooding has already lashed the city, with major roads such as Discovery Drive inundated with water and blocked off this afternoon.

Earlier this evening more than 32mm fell as Mudgeeraba, 44mm in Worongary, 36mm at Hinze Dam, 57mm at Tallai and 27mm at Bonogin.

Since 9am this morning, the Gold Coast Seaway has copped 159mm of rain, with Biggera Waters recording 126mm, Nerang 101mm and Carrara 95mm.

It is understood there is flooding across the city, including Helensvale, Labrador, Coombabah and Runaway Bay.

State Emergency Services have attended to more than 100 incidents during the storm, mostly helping residents with leaking roofs, while underground carparks are also experiencing flash flooding.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have created a taskforce with SES to help them assist with the backlog of calls, offering 14 rural trucks.
