No you’re not imagining it. There’s an item that has “exploded” in popularity recently – and a video shows it’s literally “everywhere”.

Every time I leave my house, I spot people wearing the same bag as me – proving it’s an accessory that officially has Australians in a chokehold.

Just as the name suggests, lululemon’s “Everywhere Belt Bag” is quite literally everywhere. I’m not exaggerating.

Popped out for an evening ‘hot girl’ walk? You won’t be the only one wearing it.

Grabbing groceries at Woolies on a Sunday afternoon? There will undoubtedly be a row of women ahead of you at the self-serve checkout that you match.

Not even going for a drink on a Saturday afternoon is immune from the lure of a lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag bag.

So what sparked this fashion phenomenon? Dennis Wang, Vice President of Accessories Design at lululemon, told news.com.au the product’s popularity comes down to its simple design.

“We designed the bag to fit our guests’ active lifestyles everywhere,” he explained.

“Our guests love the Everywhere Belt Bag because of its functional versatility. It feels effortless to style across looks and activities – be it running errands, heading to a workout, or travelling.

“It’s designed to be spacious and compact, with dimensions that accommodate the most popular phone size and wallet without overpowering the whole look.”

The devil is in the detail, Mr Wang added, noting that the internal pockets “keep essentials organised”, while the exterior zippered pocket is “perfect for securing valuables”.

“We made the strap adjustable so consumers can wear it multiple ways, across the body, around the waist, or over the shoulder, and added elastic loops to tuck in any excess strap once you’ve chosen your fit.

“We also designed it in a water-repellent fabric to protect what’s stored inside from the elements outside.”

But despite its thoughtfully created design features, no one could have predicted just how popular the $59 product would become following its initial launch to market in 2018.

On TikTok alone, there have been 219 million views of the #everywherebeltbag hashtag, while Mr Wang said in Australia and New Zealand it is one of the Canadian brand’s most sought-after items.

“The organic conversation we’ve seen online for the bag and the creativity it sparks — from styling to strap hacks to packing tips — has been fun to see,” he said.

“We continue to innovate and evolve our accessories and have grown the ‘Everywhere Bag’ franchise to include a backpack, a cross body bag, a small sling bag and even added the option of a bag charm keychain.”

The Everywhere Belt Bag craze hasn’t gone unnoticed among shoppers, with people noting online it had become “a movement”.

One TikTok video shows a woman attending a football game with her friends, all of which have the bag across worn across their bodies, and noticing how many others have the exact same look.

“Were over carrying handbags,” one commented.

“They are sooo easy,” another agreed.

It’s become such a cult item, many collect it in different colour, including in limited-edition colourways that quickly sell out.

The brand also continues to sell its infamous activewear products, with its most recent launch – a new body-hugging collection called Glow Up – hitting stores on, February 11 to rave reviews.
