Camila Cabello has taken a new trend to a level that it should never have reached.

Cabello, 27, was seen vacating in San Diego after releasing her fourth album CXOXO. The bleached blonde looked gorgeous in a bikini as she enjoyed a beach day.

She’d made the questionable choice of wearing a backwards hat, which somehow feels very Avril (Lavigne) but that was enough to distract anyone from her shorts.

The rips are so big that half her thigh is visible, and you have to squint at first to determine whether they are indeed shorts or a skirt.

The holes in her shorts are so gaping that they make her shorts look like … well, not shorts, and that is a travesty.

The shorts don’t just have a few cute rips to give them that edgy rock chick look. Of course, by rock chick, I mean like Demi Lovato rock chick, not like an actual Joan Jett rock chick.

Nope, they feature gaping holes on both legs.

It’d be fair to describe them as confronting.

We’ve known for a while that ripped up jeans are back. Yes, the pants you wore to that Blink 182 concert in the early 2000s are cool again.

It is great news for dads everywhere, who get to make their favourite joke: “You couldn’t find a pair to buy that weren’t ripped?”

The ripped trend, in general, is fine; I don’t think anyone has big feelings about it.

Maybe it feels a bit wrong for millennials because they’ve been there and had the crush on Tom Delonge to prove it, but it certainly isn’t as scandalous as the return of the low-rise jeans.

They are kind of back, but Cabello’s shorts are just a whole other thing entirely.

Everyone knows that Cabello has rebranded. She ditched brunette and wholesome for bleached blonde and talking about sex on podcasts.

She’s dancing while wearing a pink balaclava for reasons unclear and posing in bikinis in alleyways.

The success of her rebrand is hard to determine. Although her new album hasn’t been a smash, she’s never been more culturally relevant.

Obviously, no rebrand is complete without fashion risks, and even when on holidays, Cabello is prepared to give them a whirl.

I think we can all accept that Cabello wants to revamp her image and come across as sexier and cooler, but we’ve got to draw the line at these shorts.
