A woman has revealed how to transform a daggy $2 Kmart singlet into a risque crop top.
Laura Wheeler, 21, took part in a viral TikTok trend that is seeing women turning old, unwanted tops into cute crops.
The method involves putting the strap of a top through itself and pulling it out the other side to create a twist in the centre to give an old item a new look.
The Cairns woman said she had decided to do it after seeing the videos on social media – but Laura has taken it one step further, transforming a “horrible” top from Kmart into something that looks more expensive.

Laura explained she’s had the “revelation” when in the discount store where she picked up a hot pink camisole for $2.
She said she was going to use it to try the TikTok trend, stunning viewers on the social media platform with the finished result.
“I love it,” she said. “It literally looks like a $40 top and it was only $2. Bargain.”
Her video has proved popular with users, many declaring the hack was a “game changer”.
“OMG I have that top thinking I’d look cute but it looks horrible – I am going to try it this way,” one woman said.
“OK, that is pretty AF haha, love Kmart,” another said.
“I have this too and it’s so cute,” someone else chipped in.
How to do the crop top twist
Others found the trick a little confusing, prompting Laura to share a second video explaining how to create the look for yourself.
“Sorry I didn’t do a ‘how to flip it’ in the video, I thought everyone had seen it,” she said.
Wearing a little swimming top underneath to protect her modesty, Laura showed how to perform the hack while wearing the top, pulling one strap through the inside of the top and then looping it back over he shoulder.
It took a bit of adjusting to even out but eventually she had the desired bow effect. The back will match the front, she adds.
Viewers were also impressed with Laura’s pants, which she said were a pair of cropped straight legged pants from Glassons.
A spokesperson for the brand said the exact ones Laura is wearing in the video were sold out – but there were a similar pair in stock in the same “milk” colour for $59.99.
How viral TikTok fashion trend was born
TikTok user Kelly was one of the first to share the twist crop top on the social media platform, sparking the trend with her video that has been viewed almost 1 million times to date.
