Abbie Chatfield shows ‘confused’ fans how to wear twist dress from her label Verbose

Fans have expressed their confusion over an “awkward” feature on one of the dresses from Abbie Chatfield’s new clothing brand.

Abbie’s cut out dress ‘confuses’ fans

Abbie Chatfield has explained in a video how to wear a piece from her new clothing brand, Verbose the Label, after fans took to social media to express their “confusion” at one of its features.

In a video on TikTok, Adelaide’s Bronte Whellans, who posts on the platform under @thatgirlbronte, shared herself trying on ‘The Twist Dress’ from the collection – which so far constitutes five pieces available in sizes 6 to 26.

“So I just got my package from Abbie Chatfield’s clothing brand Verbose – I think that’s how you say it, and I’m going to try it on,” Whellans said in the clip, before cutting to footage of her attempting to put on the dress.

“So I’m really confused. The label’s here, that’s the front of the dress, and then it does this [shows the skirt], so I was like, ‘Oh OK, maybe it’s like twisted and inside out’, but the hem is there and the hem is right on this side too. I’m very confused. I’m going to try and put this on, we’ll see.”

But Whellans continued to try the dress – which features a twisted segment at the midriff and is cut out at the back – to no avail.

“OK this is ridiculous. I literally have to put on shorts and a top because I just want to show you guys how – I’m not even sure if this is how you’re supposed to put the dress on … How am I supposed to step inside this?” she asked.
“And I tried it the other way round too and it didn’t work … I literally like, I can’t even. And this is my size. I can’t get it on. This is ridiculous. I literally cannot get it over my head.

“Is this how you’re supposed to put it on? Abbie?! I’m so confused … What do I do? … There is no way that this is how you’re supposed to put it on. I literally can’t. I can’t.”

Whellans then headed to Verbose’s Instagram account – where Chatfield had posted a video explaining how to put the dress on properly.

“Hey b*tches, I’m here to show you how to put on the purple twist dress. Some of you are like, ‘Wait, is this a manufacturing issue?’ No, it isn’t. It’s how it’s meant to be,” the podcast host and former reality star said in the demonstration.

“So I’m going to put it on and show you how to do it. So you put the bottom part on first at the skirt [lifts dress over head], and then I usually put it like just below my boobs and twist this sh*t. OK I twist it. I twist it. And then I give birth to myself [puts head through neckhole]. Over the titties. Down there [pulling dress down].

“OK now how do we get it off? Simple. So over the boobs, and then pull off like a T-shirt. And look, it’s almost like a magic trick. Optical illusion.”

While Whellans eventually got the dress on – following Chatfield’s Instagram instructions – but said her arms had been left “red raw”.

“It was painful to put on,” she admitted. “It’s nice and I love it and it feels great and I love Abbie, but it was just so awkward to put on. I’m scared to take it off now.”

Dozens of others have flooded the brand’s Instagram page though to declare that they’re “legit obsessed” with their twist dress.

“Wearing [it] tonight and it’s something a couple of years [ago] I wouldn’t have felt comfortable wearing and now I can’t wait to look [flame emoji] in it,” one wrote.

“Love. Love. LOVE! Stunning,” commented another.

When the brand launched, Chatfield was praised for creating a new way for women to shop.

Instead of organising the pieces by product, customers are able to shop by their size – therefore viewing each design on a model whose body type actually represents theirs.

“This is how you see your fit on @verbosethelabel,” Chatfield explained in a video.

“We have 6 models to hopefully help you that little bit more in finding the right size for you.

“Measurements and height are included as well as a standard size chart. I hope you all enjoy shopping on the website and, even more so, enjoy your new @verbosethelabel clothes.”
