And she didn't just go at an off-peak time, there was another sneaky trick she used to nab the massive discounts. 

We've all read the Facebook posts in bargain-hunting groups vowing to know the 'perfect' time to score supermarket markdowns. 

(For those of you not chronically trawling the groups, it's believed to be late afternoon and early evening.)

The issue is, that because everyone now knows the off-peak times, you end up jostling with other shoppers who are eager to nab the same deals. Or worse, you arrive to completely bare shelves.

But one mum has gone and found an even better hack to score some serious cash off your groceries — and we bet you didn't think of it yourself!

It's shopping the day before a public holiday!

A trolley full of groceries for just $8!

With this trick in mind, she headed to her local Coles on Easter Saturday and ended up scoring a trolly full of groceries for an unbelievably low cost. 

So, why does this trick work?

Well, over the Easter long weekend, supermarkets reduce their trading hours and even close completely on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, meaning the days before see some of the biggest discounts of the year.

Taking to the Markdowns Australia group, Alexandria from Newcastle shared a photo of her Easter Saturday haul with the caption: "Coles at 6pm! Originally $158.89, paid $8.47."

The items included chicken schnitzel, grass-fed diced beef steak, mince beef, spicy chicken wings, organic Lilydale chicken, diced chicken breast, a beef pie and a large tray of croissants.

The meat ranged from 40 cents to 60 cents, with the best deal being the Graze grass-fed beef steak, which cost just 60 cents, down from $12. 

The tray of croissants was also a bargain, costing just 55 cents, which was a savings of $10.45.

"Too good to be true"

Alexandria's post impressed the group, leaving many shoppers jealous. "That is what my dreams are made of. Good job, you," one person wrote, while another said, "Good for you! Our Coles NEVER has a reduction like this."

"You nailed it!! Wouldn't be advertising location, you'll never see this again otherwise," another quipped.

"Looks too good to be true," another claimed.

"Now these are markdowns," someone else declared, while another said it was the "markdown of the year."

Then another happy shopper shared, "I scored heaps of cheap meat today too!!"

How good! We'll try our luck next year, I guess.
